Jack joins us for his 18th season and continues to provide the membership with an exceptional golfing experience!  Jack graduated from Southern Connecticut State University and lives in Stamford with his wife Jan and children Dan, Emily, & Brian.

AVCC boasts a very active tournament schedule for golfers of every handicap.  There are many exciting events and pick-up games for men, women, and juniors to participate in so if you are in need of a challenge or weekend group let one of Jack's Assistant Golf Professionals arrange a foursome on your behalf.


 

Gerard J. Scheer, Jr., PGA

Gerard has been involved in promotion, development, and instruction of golf since 1995. Over the past 15 years, he has honed his teaching philosophy and approach in hopes that each student's appreciation of the game and playing ability will improve. His number one goal is to develop a relationship with a student that will last a lifetime.  A graduate from the Professional Golf Management Program (PGM) at Methodist University, Gerard holds a degree in Business Administration with a Concentration in Professional Golf Management. He has been a member of the Professional Golfers Association since 2007.

Over the past 13 years, Gerard has successfully implemented and enhanced challenging yet exciting golf programs for adults and juniors alike at three upscale private golf facilities in Fairfield County. Gerard has been a proud member of the Aspetuck staff for the last 7 years where a majority of his time has been focused on instruction and junior golf development. He has been nationally recognized as one of the Top 50 Junior Golf Instructors in the country by US Kids Golf in 2007 and received an honorable mention in 2008.  Gerard has recently been authorized, as one of an elite few instructors in the country, to teach the Stack & Tilt Golf System.   

The game of golf has allowed Gerard to grow as a person and pursue two of his passions in life; teaching, with a concentration in junior golf development, and the competitive aspect of the game in tournament play.  Whether on the range, course, or in the Golf Shop, Gerard has really enjoyed interacting and spending time with the membership of AVCC.

John Bushka, PGA
Assistant Golf Professional


John is originally from Waterbury, CT and now resides in Stratford with his wife Melissa and son Jonathan. John has worked at several clubs in the Metropolitan Section including Silvermine Golf Club, Rockaway Hunting Club, and H. Smith Richardson Golf Course. He has also been a Teaching Professional at Great River Golf Club and Watertown Golf Club in the Connecticut Section. He played golf for Holy Cross High School in Waterbury and the University of Miami.

John has learned various aspects of golf from several nationally recognized instructors including David Leadbetter, Stan Utley, David Pelz & Dr. Bob Rotella. He has qualified for two PGA Tour events (2006 Buick Championship and 2009 Travelers' Championship), the 2010 & 2011 National Professional Championship, and two National Assistant Professional Championships. He holds the modern day course record at Aspetuck after shooting 66 during a Metropolitan Assistants' tournament in August of 2010.


 

Ryan Alexander

Born and raised in New Canaan, Connecticut, Ryan Alexander began his venture in the golf business at the age of 12. Starting out as a caddy and bag room employee at Woodway Country Club in Darien, he learned how to play the game of golf under retired golf professional Mike Ballo. Michael gave him lessons as well as mental knowledge that he could put forth in his golf career. Ryan was also introduced to the business side of golf under Stuart Waack and Michael Crawford. After 12 years of service to Woodway, he decided to take the next step in his golf career and joined the Aspetuck Valley golf staff in 2007, were he is now the Golf Shop Manager and PGA Apprentice.

Ryan's golf career started in the 9th grade were he played on the Varsity Golf Team for St. Luke's. He was also a member of the team in all 4 years of high school. He was invited to 1 FAA All-League Tournament which was held at Yale. He played in his freshman year of college and then took a leave from golf to explore the sports media business during his sophomore year until graduation in 2005. After a period of working with ESPN Radio and CBS Sports, Ryan decided that golf was his career and started working back into the business. He is currently working on his Level 1 PGA and hopes to have the program completed in the next couple of years.
